Stay at Home

stay-at-homeWashington now joins the ranks of the other states in the US that have declared shelter in place or stay at home orders for it’s residents.  We’ve already been doing much of that over the last few weeks, but now, the pace of life begins to slow down even more as we are required to only venture out for essentials (groceries, pharmacies and doctor visits).

Our governor did say ‘going for short walks or bike rides’ were allowed for physical and mental health (I do thank you Jay Inslee for both permitting that and mentioning mental health) as long as social distancing was enacted.  So it’s not a total lock down in one’s home.  But it definitely is a much-needed action to curtail the social behavior that has enabled this virus to spread.

With this state-mandated order comes a trend to spend more time within, not just the home but within the mind.

Just in time, on the inspiration from a dear friend, colleague and fellow Reiki practitioner and shaman, Cedar Hyde, I will be engaging in a two week daily morning meditation and healing practice.  We ended up calling it the ‘Reiki Sit for ‘The Situation’.  Funny how such things find a perfect time and place to happen.

A client of mine recently mentioned ‘we are all turning into contemplatives’ with all this self-isolating and insulating behavior.  It’s definitely a retreat from the world for those who have the privilege to work from home and aren’t also doing double duty caretaking a family or family members.

So what to ‘do’ with the extra time I would have been going to an event or activity or gathering of some kind?

I have ‘become friends’ with the virtual world.  I’ve found a number of different groups that hold Zoom or Facebook group sessions and reach out to friends and family via some form of technology every day.  It feels like I’ve actually become more social with social distancing.  Is that possible?!!!

As I mentioned in a prior blog, I’ve already begun to look into enhancements for my online Reiki class offerings.  I get to create new versions of the content I’ve developed and organized.  In many ways, that’s something I’ve always wanted to do,  and lo and behold there is a need and want for it.  So I’m super pumped about having this extra time for this project.

In writing this blog I realize I am starting to sound like most of my clients who have been self-isolating and working from home.   We are getting on with our lives to the best of our ability amidst the backdrop of ‘The Situation’.

Should I be worried more?  If I was being irresponsible and reckless in my behavior, yes.  But I’m not.  I’m following the prudent guidelines, which give structure and the opportunity to do all of the above.  Should I be worried about other people’s lack of prudence?  How the government is handling/not handling things?

I could chose to be worried, or I could just focus on what I actually can control.

Instead of worrying, I can be vigilant about hygiene  and staying home.

I wanted to link this document on how to handle worry passed on from a counseling colleague of mine, Jori McChesney.  Thank you Jori!

Take a breath.  We’ll get through this!

How Distant Healing Works

4541723842I wanted to talk a bit about what distance healing is and how it can be as effective as in-person Reiki sessions, the advantages and disadvantages to the technique.

In working with Reiki for over 20 years I have had the honor of helping thousands of clients heal and obtain relief from various aliments, illnesses, spiritual and emotional issues.

How energy healing ‘works’.  Healing energy is all around us, in the sky, in the earth, in the Universe.  It has been a part of this world as long as there have been humans inhabiting.  A practitioner of this energy funnels it through intention (not ego) and uses their body as a channel to direct this intention.  The client who is receiving this energy draws the energy to them.  They must give themselves permission to receive.  They don’t need to believe in the energy, or that it even works, but there must be consent.  This is the fundamental process of how Reiki healing works.

Most people are familiar with a practitioner using their hands to either lay upon or hover above a client’s body when doing Reiki.  The recipient often feels the pressure, heat, or movement of energy during such an in-person session.  A sense of calm, relaxation and peace often occurs and often there is significant pain reduction.

Some people find the in-person session most comfortable and soothing because it does involve a certain connection with the practitioner.

Distance healing involves the same mechanism described above in how energy healing ‘works’.  But because time and space are illusions as described in modern physics, the practitioner is able to ‘send’ energy through space and time to a recipient.  They need not be present to experience the benefits.

When I describe this to my clients they seem very amazed at such a phenomena, that it is considered ‘magic’ and yet, we don’t blink an eye at our cell phones working because of ‘invisible’ waves communicating our thoughts and ideas.  A Reiki practitioner is like a telecommunications satellite. We are able to transmit healing frequencies to the recipients who request them.

I have found that it is important for the recipient of a distance healing session to schedule the appointment as if they were going to have an in-person session.  In this way, they can prepare themselves in a more optimum way, shutting off any distractions and finding a quiet place to sit or lay down.  If they’d like to light a candle or play some ambient music in the background, that is up to them.

In this way, they have created a sacred space for themselves.  This is what the energy practitioner does when they perform an in-person session.

And yet, there have been many times where I have been called upon to send distant Reiki at a moments notice, the recipient was in crisis and so did not have the opportunity to set up a sacred space.  The Reiki energy still transmitted and was received.

How do I know it was received?  After each distant session, I either email or call my clients, depending on their preference, and check-in with how they are doing and relay any insights I received and that they experienced.

Without fail, throughout decades of practice, each recipient I have sent to has commented that the effects of the session were “profound, deep and cleansing” or “radiating energy pulsating throughout my body”.  One client told me, “I felt as if you went to the core of my problem and took it away”.

I have performed distant healing sessions for clients with cancer, diabetes, kidney failure, heart disease, pre and post-surgery, pregnancy, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, insomnia as well as for supporting good health in both body and mind.

If you would like to schedule a distant Reiki session, you can view my online schedule here.

Holding the New World Trade Tower in Light

A final steel beam was lifted Monday atop a new World Trade Center skyscraper — the first expected to open at the site next year since the twin towers were decimated on 9/11.  I’d like to dedicate this week’s distant Reiki healing towards a new future, for New York, the US and the world.  Reconstruction occurs on many levels, physical, mental and emotional, and in sending light, we offer healing potential to assist in further transformation, as always, for the best and highest good.

Reiki for furried felines

I’d like to dedicate this week’s distant Reiki group to the furried friends, the kitties and cats we know, look after or see on the streets who can use a bit of extra love.

My own kitty Comet, seen here taking in a lazy snooze, has been diagnosed with a right hip that needs some healing.  The bone has started to deteriorate spontaneously, but I know, through the power of both Reiki, acupuncture, herbs, and traditional methods, we can help this little guy out.

So, hold him and your own in the light 6/7 10-11am.  Let me know how it goes!

Sending Distant Reiki to Earth Changes

Tomorrow 3/22 we send healing Reiki energy from 10-11am to our wonderful planet and all the internal changes that are churning within.  Keeping in mind that the force of Mother Nature is well beyond our own power, we show respect and honor at what she is capable of.

So, we offer this light to the earth to assist with her own balancing and harmonizing, just as we, her inhabitants, also require the same equilibrium.

As always, no attachment to result, but filling the earth with radiant light and love for the greatest and highest good.  Tune in from wherever you are!

Sending Distant Healing to the Changes in the World 3/1/12

The only constant is change. The world is always changing, as are our own lives. I’d like to dedicate this week’s distant healing from 8-9am PST towards infusing change with great Reiki light.

The first 20 minutes to infuse the whole entire planet, beautiful earth, with radiant light to support all the geological, botanical and biological changes that occur each and every day to bring forth all the diversity that exists nowhere else in the Universe.

The next 20 minutes to our own country, that constantly is in flux on economic, social, cultural, educational and personal levels. Letting light infuse for greatest harmony.

Lastly, 20 minutes towards all the changes in our own and our friends and families lives to help them and us be able to see ‘the forest for the trees’.

Thanks again! For details and comments, check out FB this morning.

Distant Healing Targets for 1/19

This week on 1/19/12 from 8am-9am PST,  let’s send to the natural processes of the earth, to the weather Gods and Goddesses.  For the first 15 minutes, a good dose of gratitude and light for what falls or shines from our skies.

The next 15 minutes, I’d like to dedicate to the people in the world who are struggling with end-of-life issues and allowing them to find peace and reconciliation so that they can transition out of this world in peace.

The last half-hour, to our own families, friends and communities as well as to any personal concerns or issues that need addressing.

Rev up those Reiki intentions!
